Eldon Theodore Barnard passed from this life Wednesday, August 7, 2019, at Southern Hills Specialty Care at 93 years of age. Services will be held 10:30 a.m. at Kale Funeral Home in Osceola, Saturday August 10, 2019, with Rev. Dr. Al Adams officiating. The family will greet friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, August 9, 2019, at Kale Funeral Home. Interment will follow in the Maple Hill Cemetery, Osceola. Memorial contributions may be directed to the First Christian Church in Osceola,  EveryStep Hospice in Osceola or the Clarke County Fairgrounds. Eldon Theodore Barnard, son of Merton Long and Floy Clara (Cellman) Barnard was born October 23, 1925, in Jamison, Iowa. Eldon received his education in country schools and graduated in 1943 from New Virginia High School. Eldon served his country during the Korean War attaining the rank of Corporal (Technician).

He was united in marriage to Marian Lucille (Ramsey) Barnard May 31,1953 at her parents home and two children, Randy and Beverly blessed this union. Farming and his livestock was Eldon’s life. He enjoyed being with family and watching the kids and grandkids events. Eldon loved to travel, especially the trips to Colorado to see the mountains. Eldon loved the game of baseball and even played town team ball for six years after graduating from high school. In later years he enjoyed going to the Iowa Oaks and was an avid Yankees fan. Most of all he never knew a stranger. It didn’t matter where he was or whether he knew them or not, Eldon could strike up a conversation.

Eldon was a longtime 4-H leader, Farm Bureau Board member, New Virginia Manor Board member, and a member of American Legion Post No. 281 in  New Virginia and a member of the First Christian Church in Osceola.

Eldon leaves to cherish his memory; his wife of over 66 years, Marian Barnard of New Virginia; son, Randy (Tammy) Barnard of New Virginia; daughter, Beverly Barnard of Pleasant Hill; grandchildren, Andrew, Nicole and Adam Barnard; sisters, Marion Akes of Osceola and Margaret Moore of Omaha, Nebraska, as well as other relatives and many friends.

Those relatives who preceded Eldon in death were his parents, Merton and Floy; brother Frank; sister Jean Henrichs; brothers-in-law, Ivan Henrichs, Wayne Akes, Warren Moore and Joe Ramsey; sisters-in-law, Gweneth Barnard and Jean Marie Ramsey and his granddaughter, Rachel Renae Barnard.
