Susana Camacho was accepted into the South Central Iowa Bandmasters Association (SCIBA) High School Honor Band for the second year in a row. Susana was selected as a clarinet player in the 11th/12th grade band. She prepared audition material which included playing four scales from memory and sections of two prepared etudes. Susana auditioned against many other students from all across south-central Iowa including two additional Clarke High School Band students. The SCIBA High School Honor Band Festival was held Saturday at Ankeny High School. Students from 36 different schools across south central Iowa rehearsed all day and performed a concert for the public in the evening. Dr. Mark Whitlock conducted the 11th/12th grade band and Dr. Danny Galyen conducted the 9th/10th grade band.
Sam Reynoldson, Cole Pontier and Emma Bolton were accepted into and participated in the Drake University Honor Band Nov. 30 and Dec. 1, 2018. Students are selected for the Drake University Honor Band based off of director nomination and student application. All three Clarke students were accepted into the Honors Concert Band - Sam Reynoldson on alto saxophone, Cole Pontier on baritone, and Emma Bolton on percussion. Students rehearsed both days and performed a concert for the public in the evening Dec. 1. Students were also treated to performances by the Drake Jazz Ensemble I and the Drake University Wind Symphony between rehearsals. Dr. Michael Fansler directed the Honors Wind Ensemble and Dr. Shelley Jagow directed the Honors Concert Band.
