Area volleyball: Murray to 3-2, CD continues hot start

Murray 3, O-M 0

MURRAY — Murray started its season Sept. 4 with a straight sets win over visiting Orient-Macksburg, 25-11, 25-10, 25-17.

The Lady Mustangs were 70-of-74 on serves, with Emma Decker (22-22) and Kendra Boles (14-14) leading the way. Boles also led Murray with seven kills.

Twila Barber’s 12 assists were tops for Murray, while Bre Klein and Kinzee Eggers posted five and four kills, respectively.

Ankeny Christian Academy 3, Murray 0

ANKENY – ACA toppled Murray in straigth sets on Sept. 6 26-24, 25-21, 25-16.

Klein led the Lady Mustangs in attacking with nine kills while Eggers contributed five put-aways.

Barber led the squad in assists with nine. Britta Callstrom added five of her own.

Decker (16-16) and Boles (12-12) were both perfect from the service line and added an ace apiece.

Murray 2, Twin Cedars 0

TWIN CEDARS – Murray went 2-1 in its three matches at Twin Cedars Saturday, starting with a sweep in straight sets over the hosts, Twin Cedars, 21-11, 21-14.

Klein was 12-14 on the attack with 10 kills to her name. Kelli Romero went 10-12 and put away eight kills.

Barber and Callstrom were once again the passing leaders with 10 and seven assists, respectively.

As a team, the Lady Mustangs went 38-40 from the service line and had five aces.

Murray 2, Pleasantville 1

TWIN CEDARS – The Lady Mustangs also picked up a win in their second match of the day, defeating Pleasantville 21-15, 13-21, 15-7.

Murray once again put together a nearly mistake-free serving performance, going 46-48 as a team with five aces.

The Lady Mustangs only had eight kills as a unit, but 41 digs with Callstrom leading the way with 13. Klein and Decker both scooped up six balls as well.

Ankeny Christian Academy 2, Murray 0

TWIN CEDARS – In their second early-season meeting, the Lady Mustangs couldn’t slip by Ankeny Christian Academy, falling 22-20, 21-17.

Klein and Romero had five and four kills, respectively while attacking.

As a team, Murray was 30-34 serving with a lone ace. Callstrom put together six assists and five digs in the loss.

Murray sat at 3-2 as of Monday.
