Democratic candidate for Secretary of Agriculture Tim Gannon visited the Clarke County Fair July 17. Gannon grew up on a century farm in Jasper County and belives in soil and water conservation as well as providing opportunities to youth in the agriculture field.
“I think if we start sending that signal to young people that there is a future in agriculture where they can make money and they can live in a community where they’re comfortable raising a family, then we won’t see the kind of population loss like we’ve seen between 2010 and 2016,” Gannon said. “Seventy-one of our 99 counties lost population and I don’t think that’s sustainable. ... So we need to make sure that the economy around agriculture is strong and provides opportunities.”
