Murray baseball dropped to 0-9 with a 10-0 loss to Wayne Monday.

As of Monday, Payton Flaherty led the Mustangs with a .348 batting average.

Jimmy Graham is 8-for-24 for the Mustangs for a .333 average. Logan Werner is hitting 4-for-15. Eighth-grader Brycen Wookey is 6-for-23 with a team-high four doubles.

Reece Held owned a 3.97 ERA and 17 strikeouts through 12 1/3 innings pitched.

Murray softball, with a record of 10-5, is ranked 15th in Class 1A.

Bre Klein owns a 10-4 pitching record with 96 strikeouts. She also leads the team with her .522 batting average.

Klein and Zadie Hatfield both have 18 RBIs, tied for the team lead.

Klein, Hatfield and Boles all have two home runs apiece.

Other above .300 hitters are Hailey Chew (.358), Emma Decker (.348), Kelli Romero (.348) and Boles (.313).

Kayla Wookey, an all-stater, recently returned from surgery on a torn ACL.

Interstate 35 baseball sat with a 6-5 record as of Monday.

The Roadrunners picked up a big victory 8-7 over Pride of Iowa power Martensdale-St. Marys 8-7 on Thursday, May 31.

Trevor Thornburgh picked up the pitching win by striking out five and not allowing a hit in the final two innings of work.

I-35 scored five runs in the third, added one in the fourth, one in the fifth and the deciding run in the seventh.

Spencer Pontolilo was 3-for-3 with three runs scored and an RBI. Darian Brown had two RBIs and Brayden Egli was 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI.

As of Monday, Darian Brown led the Roadrunners with a .412 batting average and 14 RBIs as well as a 3-0 pitching record with 36 strikeouts in 22 innings.

Central Decatur baseball sat 6-2 after Monday's 16-0 win over Moulton-Udell.

Tyler Davis leads the Cardinals with a .423 batting average.

Ricky Marcus' 14 RBIs leads CD.

Carter Boothe had scored a team-high 14 runs and is 11-for-11 on stolen bases.

I-35 softball has picked up a number of surprisingly effective performers early during a 7-7 start, which includes big wins over Harlan, Lenox and Murray.

Before dropping consecutive games to Van Meter, Perry and Melcher-Dallas, the Roadrunners were led to a hot start by freshman pitcher Ava Knoll and several young bats.

Knoll owns a 5-3 record and 51 strikeouts in 45 innings of work.

Freshman Summer Pasutti already has a three-home run game under a belt (against Chariton, which helped her earn South Central Iowa Softball player of the week honors). She is hitting .435 with five doubles and 13 RBIs (as of Monday).

Senior Lilly Miller is hitting .525 and has eight doubles. Fellow senior Laynie Duff, playing for the Roadrunners for the first time since freshman year, is hitting at a clip of .525 and has whacked eight doubles ad owns a team-high 21 RBIs.

Kate Stanley, a recent DMACC commit, is hitting .444.

Central Decatur softball owned a 5-10 record as of Monday evening.

The Cards own big wins over Martensdale-St. Marys and Grand View Christian.

Eighth-grader Kylee Rockhold's .432 batting average leads the Cardinals as of Monday.

Riley Bell leads CD with 16 RBIs.

Rockhold and Bell have shared the pitching duties, with the two combining for 72 strikeouts and a team ERA of 4.39.
