Controlled burn workshop

The Clarke County Conservation Board is hosting a controlled burn workshop sponsored by siosa 10 a.m. April 22 at East Lake Park at no cost to the public.

A prescribed burn can help land managers safely use fire to achieve management goals for forage or improved wildlife habitat in grasslands, woodlands, CRP and forests.

The event will begin with a classroom program at the park office at East Lake Park and break for lunch. Workshop instructors will talk about burn benefits for grasslands, smoke management, weather factors for burns, timing burns, planning burns, personnel and equipment, and follow-up evaluations.

If weather permits a demonstration burn will be conducted after lunch at the park. Participants in the demonstration burn are asked to dress for the outdoors, wear leather boots, and bring leather gloves.
