Three Clarke Community High School football players will have the privilege to play in the 30th annual Down Under Sports Tournament, specifically the Down Under Bowl.
Nick McVey, Riley Domina and Taven Floyd will each seek to raise $5,000 to travel to the Gold Coast of Australia in the summer of 2018.
Coach Duane Matthess played in the football game after his senior year. He called it a “Once in a lifetime opportunity.” Matthess played teams from Texas and Idaho when he competed in the bowl and said he still speaks with players from the Iowa team he was a part of.
Donation forms to aid the three’s trip can be found at Clarke Community High School or by speaking with the players. There will be a chili dinner at the Eagles Lounge of Osceola on Friday Dec. 29 to raise money. Attendees will pay to play games at the event with a freewill donation, and the meal will come with the gameplay.
The kids are also selling t-shirts for $25. They will have a design with the player’s names on top.
