Bluegrass champs

Murray softball clinched its 17th conference championship since 1983 by defeating Twin Cedars 16-1 in Bussey Thursday.

The win wrapped up a 9-0 conference slate and the team’s fourth conference title in the last five years after yielding the title to Moravia last year.

Breianna Klein struck out 10, allowed one hit and one walk.

Brandi Gilbert and Kayla Wookey both blasted home runs, with both coming in the fourth.

A 3-0 win over Melcher-Dallas on June 6 is the closest a Bluegrass opponent has finished in a game this season.

The Lady Mustangs finished by winning 19 of their last 20 games overall.
