Hunt & Associates, P.C., Certified Public Accountants, today released an audit report on Clarke County, Iowa.
The County had local tax revenue of $16,593,669 for the year ended June 30, 2016, which included $1,572,343 in tax credits from the state and $246,322 in gaming tax. The County forwarded $11,480,517 of the local tax revenue to the townships, school districts, cities and other taxing bodies in the County.
The County retained $5,113,152 of local tax revenue to finance County operations, a 2.0 percent increase from the prior year. Other revenue included charges for services of $708,956, operating grants, contributions, and restricted interest of $2,882,445, capital grants and contributions of $1,140,381, unrestricted investment earnings of $11,457 and other general revenues of $39,397.
Expenses for County operations totaled $8,303,320, a 2.3 percent increase from the prior year. Expenses included $3,565,961 for roads and transportation, $1,901,034 for public safety and legal services, and $1,005,242 for administration.
