Local homeowner Alan Binning delivered a presentation during Tuesday night’s city council meeting centered on installing new sidewalks along Shaw Street, specifically from LifePoint Church to Highway 69.
As an engineering technician and an educator, Binning came prepared. Through a series of detailed maps, photos and regulation summaries, he methodically made his case for the necessity behind a project projected to cost between $28,000 and $32,000.
With a focus on child safety, Binning demonstrated how investing in a sidewalk on the route would benefit the whole community. It was an outstanding example of how citizens can effectively lobby for change on a local level.
