About The Outreach Program, Hunger-Free Iowa Initiative

The Outreach Program is one of the nation’s largest nonprofit organizers of charity meal-packaging events, providing nutritious meals to those in need both at home and abroad.

Outreach was founded in 2004 by Iowa natives Floyd Hammer and his wife Kathy Hamilton. Since its inception, Outreach has facilitated the packaging of over 362 million meals for hungry people around the world.

Outreach meal packaging events are held across the United States and Canada to engage colleges, universities, businesses, religious and civic organizations, schools and volunteers of all ages.

Outreach is funded through grants, donations and social entrepreneurship. Outreach also provides clean water, medical care, and education to the people of rural Tanzania.

In 2013, Hammer and Hamilton were invited to the White House by President Obama and former President Bush where they received the 5,000th Point of Light Award. Outreach consistently receives a 4-Star Rating by Charity Navigator and is a trusted member of Guidestar.

In August 2014, Outreach launched the Hunger-Free Iowa Initiative. The goal of the Initiative is to engage all 99 Iowa counties in collaboration efforts to make Iowa the nation’s first hunger-free state.
