Annie Amelia Whitehead Files, 99, of Marion, formerly of Murray, passed away at 8:15 a.m. Sunday morning, Jan. 31, 2016, at St. Luke’s Living Center West in Cedar Rapids.
Annie was born to John William and Nellie Blanche (Wright) Whitehead on Jan. 4, 1917, in Silver City. She attended Silver City High School and graduated in 1934.
Annie married Vernon Files in 1934, and the couple had four children. Annie worked at Snowdon’s lingerie factory in Osceola for many years before moving to Warrensburg, Missouri, to be a dorm mom at University of Central Missouri. She later moved to Marshalltown and worked at Meeker Laundry and then to Des Moines to work as a lab tech at Mercy Hospital until her retirement.
Annie is survived by two daughters, Dorothy White and Kathy (Ken) Peterson and two sons, Ray (Laveda) Files and Robert (Nancy) Files. She was blessed to have 16 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Annie is preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Mae Whitehead, Dorothy, Ruth, Laura and Lola Whitehead (infants), Dora Alley, Edna Lohrenz and Frances Barr; and brothers, George (infant), John, Leonard, Clare and Donald Whitehead. She was a blessing to all who knew her.
A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. June 4, at Murray Church of Christ with burial in Murray Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Murray Church of Christ, 430 Third St., Murray, IA 50174 or Trinity Christian Church, 16773 State Highway 2, Decatur, IA 50067.
