Clarke County updating its plan – desires ideas from the public

Clarke County Board of Supervisors has authorized the zoning department to update the existing comprehensive plan for Clarke County. The current plan is 20 years old and does not meet current Iowa Code standards.

A comprehensive plan looks at the relevant features of the county and the issues the county is newly facing or is likely in the near future to face. The plan’s topics include things such as land use, housing, economic development, agriculture and financing.

The plan will conclude with a set of goals and projects for the next 20 years. It will also provide policies and maps to guide the updating and implementation of the zoning ordinance.

The county has hired the Southern Iowa Council of Governments (SICOG) of Creston to begin work on this project.

The zoning department and SICOG will also be hosting a one-hour community meeting for this project. It will be held 5:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 17, at the Clarke County Courthouse conference room in Osceola.

At this meeting meeting, a discussion will be held to gain more ideas. A few public participation activities will occur to get people thinking more about the future of the county and what vision should be put in place for the county.

There is no cost and no need to RSVP. This meeting is open to all residents and people who have an interest in the county.

Contact Jeremy Rounds or Chris Lee at 641-782-8491 with any questions about the meeting and survey.
