Osceola Big Chief FFA’s Thursday Night In the Park

This is an FFA article from Clarke Community High School.

“Every Thursday is always a great time for the residents of Osceola. There is usually a band or activity at the square for everyone to attend. On Aug. 28, FFA members and the drill team joined together to put on a fun and educational experience for the public at the square.

Community members enjoyed listening to Fine Line Bluegrass of Albia as they participated in the evening’s activities. Osceola Big Chief FFA alumni provided the delicious meal for the evening and FFA members also popped, bagged and sold kettle corn.

Informational displays were offered for viewing by various FFA members to share their experiences from the summer.

Officers Jake Manternach and Kooper Brimm shared pictures and stories of their amazing trip to Haiti this summer. They participated in this service project as a way to help strengthen their focus on citizenship. Both boys volunteered at an orphanage and also helped build homes for the Haitian people.

Alyssa Jackson demonstrated how to test pH levels using some of the new technology the ag room secured through grants.

Jackson has completed the first STEM class offered through ag and now is starting her second year of STEM training in the new plant science class.

Kaitlyn Boyer shared information with the public about her experiences with embryo transfer and how this links to her SAE and future career focus.

Rachel Severns organized a display to showcase activities that FFA members do throughout the year to strengthen their dedication to premier leadership, personal growth, and career success.

Clarke drill team encouraged children of all ages to participate in the Bike Safety Night.

It taught kids how to be safe while riding a bike. Children were encouraged to ride with helmets and use hand signals. They were able to go through a path of different people, such as police officers and nurses to talk to them about safety.

After they were done talking to everyone, they were able to ride a bike through a course to practice their skills. Along with receiving a free bike helmet, their names were also put into a drawing for a free bike.

It was a great Thursday night and Osceola Big Chief FFA would like to thank all who attended to make our night special.”
