Indians drop to 1-23 with sweep to Albia

The Clarke baseball team suffered a South Central Conference sweep at the hands of Albia here on June 26, falling 18-1 and 14-4.

Devin Wills and RJ Sells combined on the hill in the 18-1 loss in four innings of the opener.

Albia scored 18 runs on 12 hits, with 14 of those runs being earned. Wills and Sells combined for five walks and no strikeouts.

Sophomore shortstop Gable Reece recorded two of Clarke's three hits in the game, while third baseman Trevor Kirkpatrick had the other Clarke hit. Sells drew a walk and stole a base, while senior Jacob Redman also walked. Kirkpatrick scored the lone run of the contest for Clarke.

After giving up six runs in the top of the first inning of the nightcap, Clarke battled back to score three runs in the bottom of the first. Albia would go on to post a 14-4 win in five innings, however.

Kale Reed, Sells and Yahia Aly all saw action on the mound. Albia scored 14 runs, 12 earned, on 10 hits. The Clarke pitchers walked 11 batters and recorded zero strikeouts.

Reed and Reece each finished with one hit — the only hits of the game for Clarke. Reed stole two bases, while Redman drew a walk and recorded a stolen base.

Reece's hit was a solo home run. He scored two runs, while Reed and Redman each scored one run.

Clarke's next home contest is July 9 against Greene County.
