Rescue of a pig

“Rescue of a Pig-”

“An engine sprung a leak at the crane west of the Osceola depot Sunday morning letting out all the water. The water filled Titus Bonham’s pig pen and as the mercury was pounding the bottom of the thermometer it did not take long for the water to freeze the pig tight and fast – in other words – the water congealed and the pig squealed.

Titus aroused the neighbors and they went to the rescue with a vengeance. After some lusty work with axes the pig was cut loose. Some hot bricks and watering pans were hastily applied, thawing the ice off him, and his pigship is now as hearty as ever.

January 1904.”
