Central Decatur 5, Clarke 3

LEON — Clarke jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning, but a four-run fifth inning for Central Decatur was the difference in a 5-3 Cardinal win here on May 28.

Senior Drake Wedel drove in two runs for the Indians with a double, while junior Trevor Kirkpatrick drove in one run.

Gable Reece pitched 4 1/3 innings for Clarke, surrendering five runs on three hits and three walks, while striking out seven. Zach Harmsen pitched 1 2/3 innings of relief, giving up three hits and striking out three.

For Central Decatur, senior Daniel Weir drove in two runs with a double. Eighth-grader Carter Boothe drove in one run, as did sophomore Dylan Gibson.

Gibson picked up the win on the mound, going the complete game with four hits allowed, issuing four walks and striking out 10.

Murray tournament

MURRAY — Justin Held had four hits and Braydon Held pitched six innings with seven strikeouts as the Murray Mustangs defeated Mount Ayr, 13-7, in the Murray Tournament.

Held and Trey McHenry each had three hits and Daulton Winship, Jack Jones and Zabe Hatfield each had a pair of hits. Hatfield also had three stolen bases.
