Having the final say

A sales manager and two of his sales reps are walking to lunch one day when they come across an antique oil lamp. They rub it and a genie appears, saying, “I’ll give each of you just one wish.”

One rep is quick to speak up first. He says, “I want to be in the Bahamas, driving a speedboat, without a care in the world.” Poof! He’s gone.

The next rep speaks up. “I want to be fishing in a stream in the Colorado Rockies.” Poof! He’s gone.

The genie turns to the sales manager and says, “Your turn.”

The manager says, “I want those two back in the office after lunch.”

It makes a difference who has the last word, doesn’t it?

The question is, who, or what, will have the last word in your life? This is a two-part question. First, it’s a daily question.

Who has the last word in my life today? Will it be ambition? Will it be revenge? Will it be love? Will it be a whim? Will it be God? Or will it be you? Who or what is going to have the last word?

So it’s a daily question, but it’s also a life question. I can’t answer the daily question for you, only you can do that, but I can answer the life question for you. Actually, the answer to the life question is in the Bible in the New Testament book of Philippians. Here’s what it says:

“at the name of Jesus everyone in heaven, on earth, and in the world below will kneel and confess that Jesus Christ is Lord to the glory of God the Father”. (Philippians 2:10 & 11)

Now, I’m no dummy. I realize those words are offensive to some, but they’re still true. Someday, at some point, everyone is going to acknowledge that Jesus is the Son of God and that He gave His life in order to restore mankind’s relationship with God. For many, that point will come after they die.

However, I’d like to encourage you to make a decision to do that today, while you’re still living. In doing so you’ll find forgiveness for sin, a new relationship with God, help in every circumstance, peace and joy in your heart and fullness of life, not just in heaven, but now!

I’ve had many people say to me, “I wish I could go back to the beginning and start again.”

We all wish that at one time or another, but we can’t do it. We can, however, start now and make a brand new ending.

Who’s going to have the final say in your life? I encourage you to make it Jesus!
