Children’s architecture drawings on exhibit

The public is invited to take time to enjoy more than 50 drawings by Clarke County children in grades kindergarten through sixth on display at HyVee Food Stores’s dining area, 510 W. McLane St., in Osceola.

The art will be on display until Tuesday, April 15.

Students were encouraged to get creative and draw a piece of architecture they like where windows are an important part of the building. By asking children to draw one of their favorite cultural or historic buildings in town, they will begin to look at and appreciate the architecture around them.

All entries will be hand-delivered to Des Moines for the statewide judging.

Winners will be selected from nine regions in the state according to age groups.

The “Architecture by Children Drawing Contest” is sponsored statewide by the Iowa Architecture Foundation, Holmes Murphy and Casey’s General Store. Local project supporters include Clarke Area Arts Council, Murray Schools, Clarke Community Schools, HyVee and the Kimball Family Foundation.

Clarke Area Arts Council joins others in the community interested in architecture. Molly Naumann, architectural historian, will return this spring for the fifth year as an Artist-in-the-Schools increasing awareness of our area’s architecture and it’s importance in history, economy and lifestyle.
