No citations were issued after an accident 3:50 p.m. Jan. 7 at the intersection of Highway 34 and South Fillmore Street.
According to an Iowa State Patrol report, James Franklin Cowling Jr., 24, of Woodburn was driving a 2001 Hyundai west on Highway 34.
A pedestrian, Edward Richards, 13, of Osceola ran into the path of Cowling’s vehicle. Cowling pushed on his vehicle’s brakes and “veered” his vehicle to the left in attempt to avoid hitting Richards.
Richards ran into the passenger side of Cowling’s vehicle and was struck by the outside mirror. Richards and Cowling’s vehicle both came to a stop in the road.
According to the report, Richards’ injury status was incapacitating. He was transported to Clarke County Hospital and then by air ambulance to Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.
Damage estimate to the vehicle is $500.
