Clarke finishes regular season 7-20

The Clarke Lady Indians volleyball team finished its regular season with a pair of sweep losses to Centerville and Pleasantville, bringing its final regular season record to 7-20.

The Lady Indians fell to Centerville 14-25, 19-25, 16-25 on Oct. 15 in the final conference match of the season, and the final home match of the season for the team.

Sophomore Baylie Balcaen finished with a team-high five kills in that match, while senior Cassidy Bierbrodt set nine assists and served 7-of-8 with two aces.

Kennedy Crees finished with a team-high five digs and served 9-of-9. Delaney May recorded two total blocks and served 10-of-10.

The match against Centerville also served as senior night for the Lady Indians. Eleven senior players and two senior managers were honored in a ceremony prior to the match.

Senior players were Bierbrodt, Crees, Christa Delong, Elly Eddy, Louise Madsen, Allyssa May, Delaney May, Mackenzi Otto, Brenna Paul, Rachael Simpson and Jordyn Wright. Senior managers were Morgan Roan and Jacob Redman.

Clarke the dropped a hard-fought 21-25, 23-25, 16-25 match at Pleasantville on Thursday.

Balcaen once again led the way with seven kills, while Eddy added five kills. Delaney May and Paul each recorded three kills.

Crees served 10-of-11 with two aces and recorded a team-high 13 digs. Otto set 19 assists for the Lady Indians and served 6-of-6. Paul served 11-of-11 with two aces, as did Delaney May.

Allyssa May recorded nine digs and served 6-of-6. Maddi Heath served 8-of-9 with one ace.

Clarke opens Class 3A regional play on Monday at fourth-ranked Red Oak. The winner of that match will advance to play Clarinda or Shenandoah.
