Clarke Community High School FFA begins fruit, meat and cheese sales

Every year, Osceola Big Chief FFA sells fruit, meat and cheese as an annual fundraiser.

The chapter sells Oct. 1-14. They sell a variety of fruit, including clementines, apples, grapefruit, oranges and pears. They will also be selling a variety of meat and cheese selections.

With the meat, there are meat sticks and 3-pound summer sausages. Cheeses, which can be ordered as a block or as flavored spreads, may be served as a party appetizer or snack.

Each member in FFA is required to sell at least 20 items. The money raised from sales is used to provide the members with numerous opportunities and experiences. These experiences help improve skills, including leadership, public relations and financial management to help members excel as they plan for their future.

Because of past fundraising efforts, in late October, a group of nine members will be attending National Convention in Louisville, Ky. They will be able to talk to college representatives and attend leadership workshops that correlate with their career interests.

Another opportunity made possible through fundraising was the Washington Leadership Conference in Washington, D.C., and a student volunteer trip to Haiti. These opportunities helped members apply their leadership skills as they collaborated with students from across the United States.

With the sales, FFA members are able to participate in fun and educational activities. The chapter tries to raise money so funding is not a barrier for students to be involved in opportunities that will help them grow as leaders.
