Lady Indians fall to E-B-F, WCV

The Clarke Lady Indians volleyball team fell to 7-11 for the season with a pair of tough road losses, falling to Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont and West Central Valley.

Clarke fell 25-12, 25-17, 25-13 to state-rated Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont on Sept. 17.

“We lost in three, but played the best that we had all season,” head coach Lindsay Diehl said. “We made Eddyville earn every point and the girls realized they are capable of playing along with even the best in the state. We were unable to shut down their power hitters.”

Delaney May led the Lady Indians with five kills, followed closely by Baylie Balcaen with four and Elly Eddy with three. Mackenzi Otto set 10 assists for the night.

As a team, Clarke served 41-of-43, led by Maddi Heath’s 10-of-11 night and Delaney May and Otto both serving 8-of-8. Allyssa May served 7-of-7.

“Serving and serve receive were spot on for the night, and we had multiple kids that were serving at 100 percent on the night,” Diehl said. “Very proud of what the kids were able to do against a team at that level.”

The Lady Indians then hit the road on Sept. 19 to take on West Central Valley in Stuart.

The Wildcats picked up a 25-12, 27-25, 25-22 win over Clarke.

“The kids showed a lot of fight, but fell short,” Diehl said.

Balcaen and Eddy led the way, each finishing with six kills. Balcaen and Eddy each recorded one solo block and one block assist, as well.

Delaney May contributed five kills and Brenna Paul finished with three kills. Otto dished up 13 assists.

Kennedy Crees served 10-of-10 and finished with a team-high 14 digs. Otto served 10-of-11 in the loss.

The Clarke varsity team competes in the Nevada Tournament at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, while the JV team travels to the Creston Tournament, also at 8:30 a.m. Saturday.
