Personalized bricks find success at fairgrounds

There was a great turnout of people who wanted to put a personalized brick into the walk of honor at Clarke County Fairgrounds.

One request came all the way from Huntington Beach, Calif. Louise M. Jackson, also known as Mrs. Terry Gaumer, purchased a personalized brick for her late husband, Terry E. Gaumer.

Terry E. Gaumer, the son of Orville and Arlene Gaumer, grew up on a family farm outside of Murray and died of cancer July 22, 2009.

Jackson said, “Terry could stack bales of hay with straight sides, and he provided more than 15 years of noteworthy farming service to his father, Orville, Uncle Loren Gaumer, and Grandfather Chester Gaumer.”

Gaumer graduated from Murray High School, Iowa State University and the University of Southern California. He was a commissioned Air Force officer with long-time Vietnam-era service. At the time of his death, he was in his 25th year of work as an engineer in advanced design at Northrop Grumman Corporation in Los Angeles.

“Terry loved his home region and supported many worthy causes there,” Jackson said. “I know his spirit is always present at the county and state fairs. Thanks for the opportunity to contribute again to his beloved community”
