“Very impressed.”
That’s what Democratic U.S. Congressman Dave Loebsack had to say after he went on a tour May 31 and met with employees of Osceola Foods.
“I was very impressed with the quality of the work that’s being done here, very impressed with the safety, very impressed with a lot of things about this place,” Loebsack said during an interview after the tour. “It looks like it’s a great employer, doing a lot of good things, and they’re going to be expanding it at some point here soon, too. That’s always important.”
He added, it’s important to keep people employed or get them re-employed.
The reason Loebsack toured Osceola Foods is it’s a large employer in the south-central Iowa region, as well as being economically important for the area.
“It’s important for me as a congressman to do what I can to learn about their operation from that standpoint, certainly,” Loebsack said.
Up next?
Even though the Legislative season is done at the state level, it’s not at the federal level.
Loebsack said he’s going to be working on a lot of issues, including the Defense Authorization Bill with the House Armed Services Committee.
“That’s going to be important,” Loebsack said. “A lot of different aspects there that we’re going to be focusing on.”
He added, immigration reform is “still on the table.”
“Immigration reform could be important for this particular company, this particular region, as well,” Loebsack said. “So, a lot of things out there still that we have to do. In June and July, I will be in Washington virtually the whole time except the weekends when I come back.”
