Diego Hurtado progresses to state level with flag essay

Diego Hurtado, a fifth-grade student at Clarke Elementary, has progressed to the state level with an essay about “What the Flag Means to Me.”

Hurtado is the son of Sophia Rodriquez and Andres Hurtado of Osceola.

The flag-essay contest is an annual event sponsored by the local American Legion Post 69 Davis Pence. The event is held annually at the local, district and state level.

Hurtado won the Clarke County event, and has now represents the district at the state level. He is one of nine students in the state advancing to the state level. This is one of many youth programs sponsored by the local organization. The school district wishes good luck to Hurtado at the state level.
