CHARITON — The Clarke boys track team finished fifth with 64.50 points and the girls team finished sixth with 58 points here Monday at the South Central Conference Meet.

The two teams combined to win four conference championships, coming from the usual suspects as Logan Weers won the 100 meter dash and the 110 high hurdles, while senior Sarah Pate won both the shot put and the discus.

Weers cruised to a big victory in the 100 meter dash, running 11.13 as Albia’s Brett Leshen ran 11.43 for second place. Clarke’s Junior Morales placed sixth with a time of 11.69 in the event.

On the girls side, Pate won two conference championships in sweeping the throwing events.

Pate set a new personal best and school record with a throw of 135-10 in the discus to beat Davis County’s Kate Birchmeier by nearly three feet.

The Clarke senior also edged out Birchmeier in the shot put competition, throwing 40-8.50, beating Birchmeier by two and a half inches.

Birchmeier had beaten Pate in the shot put competition at the Drake Relays just a week prior.

Amanda Kindred placed sixth for the Lady Indians in the shot put, throwing 30-5.50.

Clarke picked up a pair of third-place finishes from Delaney May in the 800 and Kylar McCann in the 1,500. May ran 2:34.25, while McCann clocked a time of 5:31.42.
