Sylvia Nauman Osceola

Sylvia Nauman, 91, of Osceola died March 5, 2013, at Clarke County Hospital.

Funeral services were 10 a.m. Saturday, March 9, at Slade-O’Donnell Funeral Home in Leon. The Rev. Clegguart Mitchell officiated. Burial was in Leon Cemetery.

Sylvia Marie Nauman, daughter of Winnie Marie (Bethards) and Luther James Beasley, was born Oct. 3, 1921, in Decatur County.

Sylvia was raised by her grandparents and attended school in Leon.

On March 18, 1938, Sylvia married Carl Macon Nauman in Leon. They lived briefly in Washington, D.C., while Carl worked as an accountant, and then returned to this area to farm.

Carl and Sylvia farmed for many years north of Leon.

Sylvia was a homemaker.

Sylvia and Carl retired from the farm and made their home in Leon.

Sylvia was a longtime member of Leon Bible Church.

Sylvia and Carl moved to Osceola in 2001.

After Carl’s death in 2006, Sylvia remained in her own home with the care of her son Russ.

Sylvia is survived by her children, Jim Nauman of Des Moines, Russ Nauman of Osceola, Marla (husband Steve) Willis of Leon and Carla (husband Dennis) Sabin of Newton; grandchildren, Mitch (wife Jolene) Nauman, Russ (wife Diane) Nauman, Bev (husband Rick) Carlo, Lisa Nauman, Stephanie (husband James) Keith, Jonathan (wife Kristen) Willis, Christopher (wife Heather) Willis, Shannon Sabin, Shonna (husband Luke) Partelow and Shawn Sabin; numerous great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Mary Ann Leeper of Leon; other relatives and friends.

In addition to her husband, Sylvia was preceded in death by her parents; grandson Chad Nauman; half brother Charles; and half sister Kay.
