Wayne tourney

CORYDON — Murray finished third in the Wayne tournament here Saturday, going 2-2 for the day with two wins over Central Decatur and two losses to Melcher-Dallas.

Megan Oswald led the Mustangs with 17 kills in the tournament and added 13 digs. Cheyanne Ashby collected 12 kills and six blocks.

Kate Patton served 45-of-45 with 12 aces, dished out 30 assists and had four blocks.

Hannah Barber finished with nine kills for the Mustangs.

Central Decatur picked up wins over Mormont Trail and Melcher-Dallas during the tournament, while losing twice to Murray and once to Wayne.

Murray 3, Central Decatur 0

MURRAY — Murray defeated Central Decatur in three close sets here Monday, 27-25, 26-24, 25-19.

The Mustangs served 73-of-75 as a team with 10 aces. Kate Patton led the team, going 18-18 with five aces, while Courtney Siefkas was 15-15 with one ace, while Ashley Rider went 13-13 with one ace.

Patton also finished with 15 assists and three blocks. Cheyanne Ashby had a big night at the net, with seven kills and seven blocks, while Hannah Barber finished with five kills and six blocks.

Megan Oswald added six kills and seven digs, while Ashley Rider had five kills and 13 digs.

Central Decatur was led by sophomore Hallie Linhart, who finished with 14 kills, 26 digs and one ace on 13-13 serving.

Jeals Elsberry had a strong match, collecting 13 assists, three digs and one ace on 15-15 serving.

Kassy Simmons added eight kills and four aces. Brittany Binning finished with four kills and one ace.

Nevada tourney

NEVADA — Clarke went 0-3 at the Nevada tournament on Saturday, with 2-0 losses to Newton, PCM and Carroll.

Ashley Gibbs finished with four kills and five digs in the loss to Newton, while freshman Baylie Balcaen had three kills. Junior Elysha Eddy had two kills and one dig, with one ace on 4-of-4 serving.

Brandi Newberry finished with six assists and one ace on 9-9 serving. Freshman Maddi Heath had nine digs and served 6-6.

In the loss to PCM, Balcaen, Eddy and Gibbs each finished with two kills, while Heath added one. Gibbs led the team in digs with five while Newberry added three and Heath had two.

Junior Delaney May had two aces on 9-9 serving.

Gibbs finished with two kills in the loss to Carroll. Heath led the team with five digs and served 3-4. Allyssa May had three digs and served 3-3. Eddy had one ace in the match.

Clarke fell to 2-18 with the losses.
