Murray baseball moves to 2-6

The Murray Mustangs baseball team faced another week of losses, two with large deficits and one slightly closer.

Monday’s home game against Mount Ayr was lost 18-5 in five innings. The visiting Raiders leapt ahead with 10 runs in the first inning, four in the second and two in the third before Murray scored their first two runs in the third; Mount Ayr put another two on the scoreboard in the fifth and Murray three.

Mustangs who put runs on the board were Wylee Wright and Wyatt Patton with two each and one from AJ Clarke. Pitchers for the team had 11 errors and 10 walks in the game.

At Afton on Wednesday, the Mustangs had a narrow lead over the Eagles at the end of the fifth inning 6-5, but were only able to achieve one run in the sixth to Afton’s four. Clarke totaled three runs in the game, with Wright, Patton, Ace Neisemier and Trevor Eckels adding one each. The team had sevens runs batted in, and five players struck out.

Friday at home, the Mustangs fell 13-3 to the Ankeny Christian Eagles in five innings. Murray scored their first run in the third inning and two in the fourth, while the visiting team scored in each inning of play. Neisemier, Keegan Chew and Ayden Lamb each scored one run.
