James Newkirk, Sr.

Falmouth, ME

James L Newkirk, Sr., 93 of Falmouth, ME passed away on August 10, 2022.

Jim was born on August 7, 1929 in Columbus, Ohio. He graduated from Denison University in Grandville, Ohio in 1955 with a BS degree and was a member of Phi Delta Theta Fraternity. Jim had a successful business career in the construction materials industry working for industry leaders Armstrong World Industries, Kaiser Aluminum Corp, Celotex Corp and Chicago Metallic Corp where he retired in 1993 after 24 years of service and as Sales Manager of the Chicago Finished Metals Division.

Jim is preceded in death by his loving wife, Myrna, who passed this June 7th; his parents, Henry M. Newkirk in 1967 and Mary Potts Newkirk in 1991; his brother, Richard M. Newkirk in 2010 and his sister, Jean Hoffman in 2022.

Surviving are his children: James Jr. (Kelley) Newkirk of Falmouth, ME and their children Jack and Faith Newkirk. And Susan (Brian) Lewis of Colts Neck, NJ and their children Keegan and Cailey Lewis; and many nieces and nephews.

Jim was a U.S. Navy Veteran of the Korean War. Jim and Myrna were long-time residents of Naperville, IL where Jim was an active member of the Naperville community having served twelve years on the Naperville City Council, two years as a member of the Naperville School Board, and one of the founding board members of the Naperville Riverwalk commission and other boards and commissions. Jim was a member of the Presbyterian Church where served on the Board of Deacons and as a lay reader. Often recognized for his eye for classic mens attire and plaid pants, Jim took great pride in his community involvement & service; his strong, lifetime friendships that he formed over many years; and being an active father in his children’s lives and his grandchildren’s lives. He was loved by many and will be dearly missed by all.
