Charles Shannon

Charles Aulden Shannon, son of Lloyd Dell Shannon and Gladys Marie (Choate) Shannon was born March 30, 1925 in Union County, Iowa and passed from this life Thursday, September 8, 2021 at Southern Hills Specialty Care in Osceola, Iowa at 96 years of age.

Charles attended country school in the Lucas area. He was united in marriage to Eva Mae Brown on June 21, 1948 at the Afton Catholic Church, Eva Mae preceded him in death on July 17, 2020. Charles was a farm hand and worked for Union Gas Company for 35 years, retiring in 1990.

Charles raised horses and enjoyed showing horses. He enjoyed woodworking, dancing and camping. Charles was a member of the Clarke County Sheriff’s Posse, Murray Saddle Club and Clarke County Old Iron.

He was a hard working family man and will be greatly missed.

Those relatives who preceded Charles in death were his parents, Dell and Gladys Shannon, wife, Eva Mae Shannon, grandchildren, Kayla Morey and Scott Wood, step-grandson, Shane Fizer, brother, Danny and sisters, Dortha and Eileen.

Charles leaves to cherish his memory; daughter, Judy (Larry) Wood of Greenfield; son, Dave (Ronda) Shannon of Murray; daughter, Donna (Steve) Morey of West Bend; son, Bruce (Peggy) Shannon of Murray; brother, Dean (Carol) Shannon of Wisconsin; Don (Donna) Shannon of Washington; sisters, Iris Smith of Creston, and Mary Drury of California; 7 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren, one step-grandchild, one step-great-grandchild, two step-great-great-grandchildren, as well as other relatives and many friends.

Graveside services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 18, 2021, at Murray Cemetery, with Pastor Marty Burgus officiating.
