Ramona Leeka

Ramona Ann Leeka, daughter of Emmett and Hazel (Pittman) Kahoe-Hurd was born July 9, 1928 in Richland Township in Guthrie County, Iowa and passed from this life Friday, June 18, 2021 at the Clarke County Hospital in Osceola, Iowa at 92 years of age.

Ramona was united in marriage to Ivil LaVere Leeka on September 10, 1943 at Adel, IA and three daughters blessed this union, Susan, Linda and Deb. Ramona was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. LaVere and Ramona owned the Montgomery Ward store in Osceola for many years, Ramona also worked at Snowdon’s and Peggy’s Cafe. She was an active member of the Presbyterian Church in Osceola and the New Virginia United Methodist Church, teaching Sunday School and helped with many church functions. Ramona loved her family and was a great cook. She enjoyed gardening, crocheting and bird watching and most recently while living at Homestead Assisted Living in Osceola she enjoyed watching and feeding a wild bunny that lived outside the building.

Those relatives who preceded Ramona in death were her parents, Emmett and Hazel Kahoe-Hurd, husband, LaVere Leeka, sons-in-law, Raymond Pollard and Dick Downing and brother-in-law, Marv Harmann.

Ramona leaves to cherish her memory; daughter, Susan Pollard of Woodburn, IA, daughter, Linda (Richard) Sonius of Osceola, IA, daughter, Debra (Dennis Meyer) Downing of Osceola, IA, 11 grandchildren, Jeff (Bev) Pollard of Woodburn, IA, Dorothy (Jimmy) Powers of Boston, MS, Sandy (Paul) Edgar of Woodburrn, IA, Tim (Julie) Pollard of Woodburn, IA, Brian (Kim) Pollard of Woodburn, IA, Regina (Rick) Postier of Des Moines, IA, Barry (Amanda) Sonius of Ankeny, IA, Dan Sonius of Osceola, IA, Tony (Sara) Sonius of Grimes, IA, Dennis (Ashley) Downing of Lorimor, IA, Ben (McKenze) Downing of Reasoner, IA, 28 grandchildren, 12 great-great grandchildren, sister, Peggy Harmann of Perry and brother, Larry (Kay) Hurd of Des Moines, IA as well as other relatives and many friends.

Graveside services were held at Maple Hill Cemetery, Tuesday June 22, 2021 at 2:30 p.m. with Pastor Bruce Giese officiating.

Family met at Kale Funeral Home in Osceola from 1-2:30 p.m. Tuesday when everyone went together to the cemetery for the graveside.
