SWCC honor society holds fall 2020 inductions

Southwestern Community College (SWCC) hosted fall 2020 new member virtual inductions for the Beta Eta Nu chapter of Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) Oct. 25 and 27.

Beta Eta Nu chapter officers for 2020-21, who were inducted during the ceremonies, included Eric Desbois of Brooklin, Ontario, Canada, vice president, and Matthew Rinehart of Creston, vice president.

New Phi Theta Kappa inductees for the fall 2020 semester (accepted into PTK from May-October 2020) include Unity Anderson of Creston, Liberty Armstrong of Creston, Payton Armstrong of Greenfield, Destiny Ashby of Creston, Sara Beidler of Des Moines, Kayla Bentley of Diagonal, Rian Bevan of Leon, Payton Burg of Creston, Mindi Garcia of Des Moines, Kaleb Bauer of Milo, Taylor Clendenen of Indianola, Brooke Halterman of Panora, Jessica Muller of Davis City, Zayden Rawlings of Greenfield, Victoria Reynolds of Martensdale, Dain Saxton of Ridgeway, MO, Lillynn Starks of Humeston, Reyna Gutierrez of Leon, Melaina Haley of Mount Ayr, Amy Hall of Newton, Emma Hanson of Creston, Chase Johnston of Kent, Carter McCann of Osceola, Molly McNeill of Afton, Vinh Nguyen of Greenfield, Blaize Reha of Creston, Matthew Rinehart of Creston, Nathan Swaink of Clarinda, Gabrielle Valencia of Afton, Whynter Waterhouse of Melbourne, Australia, Ashtyn Werner of Kellerton, Alexander Wethor of Creston, Caleb Wright of Woodburn, and Garon Wurster of Creston.

During the ceremony, led by Jill Wallace of Greenfield, chapter president, and Tessa Powers of Creston, chapter vice president, new members took the Phi Theta Kappa oath. Jody Nedley-Newcomb, SWCC Phi Theta Kappa chapter advisor, spoke about the value in becoming a member. Nedley-Newcomb told inductees PTK offers invaluable scholarship opportunities at the community college level, as well as when it comes time for transfer from SWCC to the four-year colleges and universities of their choice.

Phi Theta Kappa International serves to recognize and encourage the academic achievement of two-year college students worldwide. To be eligible for membership, students must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or above.
