Area cross country roundup: Area runners take to Clarke's home course

Central Decatur took second and third-place finishes at the Clarke Invitational Tuesday, Sept. 29.

The Cardinal girls finished in thrd place with 82 points, behind Class 1A No. 8 Van Meter in second place (29 points) and Class 2A No. 8 Davis County (29 points) in first place. The Mustangs’ sixth-place runner was ahead of Van Meter’s, giving Davis County first place as a team.

Central Decatur’s top-three girls finished in consecutive order. Harrisen Bevan (24:03), Anison Jones (24:07) and Hadley Bell (24:07) took 12th, 13th and 14th places, respectively. Kaydee Swartz finished in 26th place with a time of 25:24.

Clarke’s Rebecca Van Buren was the only girl for the Lady Indians. She finished in 38th place, running a time of 27:38.

The Class 2A No. 10 Central Decatur boys finished in second place with 44 points, seven behind Class 2A No. 4 Davis County’s 37 points for first place. Clarke’s boys took seventh place, scoring 152 points.

The Cardinal boys were led by Class 2A No. 5 Will Gillis’ second-place finish. He ran a 17:18 behind Southeast Warren’s Randy Jiminez (16:57). Tate Swartz was the sixth-place runner, running a time of 18:46. Tyson McDole ran an 18:56 for eighth place.

Clarke’s Mason Maiers took 13th place (20:07). Ethan Domina ran a 20:46 to finish in 21st place. Steven Hiat rounded out the top-three Clarke runners with a 49th-place finish after a 22:43.
