Marvin James Oder, son of Daniel Virgil Glen Oder and Lillian May (Block) Oder was born November 21, 1935 in Sac City, Iowa, and passed from this life Friday, August 14, 2020 at Southern Hills Specialty Care in Osceola, Iowa at 84 years of age.

Marvin grew up in the Sac City area and graduated from Sac City High School.  Following high school he joined the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged in 1959.  Following his military service he was married and six children came from this union, Marvin later divorced.  Marvin lived in California a short time then moved to Greenfield, Iowa where he lived for 16 years prior to moving to Osceola.

Marvin farmed, was a black smith and small business owner.  Marvin enjoyed photography and going to horse races. He was very athletic and enjoyed all sports and attending all activities of his children.  Marvin’s greatest love was dancing.  He danced on the Lawrence Welk Show, taught dancing at the Denny Arthur School of Dance and attended many many dances across Iowa and Missouri and always attended the dances at Prairie Meadows in Des Moines.

Those relatives who preceded Marvin in death were his parents, Daniel and Lillian Oder, brother, Daniel, sister, Thelma and granddaughter Chelsey Oder.

Marvin is survived by, companion, Patty Arterburn of Greenfield, IA, son, Scott Oder of Davenport, IA, son, Gregg (DeAnna Rowley) Oder, of Delevan, NY, son, Todd (Pam) Oder of Carlisle, IA, daughter, Kristee Adkins of Ballston Lake, NY, daughter, Marnee Card of Vernon, NY, son, Ross Oder of Utica, NY, 14 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren, as well as other relatives and many friends.

Celebration of Life will be held at Kale Funeral Home in Osceola from 4:00 to 7:00 PM on Monday, August 24, 2020

Interment with military honors will be 9:30 AM, Tuesday, August 25, 2020 at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Adel, Iowa

Memorials may be directed to his family for a fitting tribute to be decided later.
