Lucille McDowell

Lucille McDowell, daughter of David L. Jones and Erma (Roberts) Jones, was born in Leon in Decatur County, Iowa on March 16, 1920. She passed from this life on Sunday, February 23, 2020 at Southern Hills Specialty Care in Osceola, Iowa at 99 years of age.

Lucille graduated the 8th grade at Scratch Eye School at High Point in Decatur County, Iowa.  She was united in marriage to James Rufus McDowell on December 31, 1943 in Bethany, Mo.

Lucille worked at Armors in Leon in the early 40’s and then at Pleasant’s Cafe in Osceola from 1964 to 1965. She worked at Snowdons from 1965 to 1974 and then at Jimmy Dean Meat Co. from 1974-1975.  Lucille liked gardening and did a lot of quilting. Many in her family has her quilts. Lucille liked to visit family members and go on vacations with her two daughters Beverly and Beatrice.

Lucille is survived by her daughter Beatrice Peterson of Osceola; two sisters Mildred (John) Luce of Leon, and Betty (Bob) Kliment from Dorchester, NE; 7 grandkids, Wayne (Peggy) McDole, Jeannette (Dwayne Money) Felton, Jeffrey (Tammy) McDole, Jeannie (Rex) Money, Jennifer Sickels, Jodi Rife, and Gina Hommer; 19 great grandchildren; 35 great-great grandchildren, son-in-law, Donnie McDole as well as other relatives and friends.

Lucille was preceded in death by her parents; Davy and Erma Jones; husband, James Rufus McDowell; two brothers Lloyd Jones, and Raymond (Lennie) Jones; two daughters Berniece McDole, and Beverly Smith; two grandchildren, Jessie McDole and Bryan Smith.

Visitation will open after Noon on Thursday, February 27, 2020 at Kale Funeral home in Osceola.  Family will be present to greet friends from 5:00 to 7:00 Thursday evening.

Funeral Services will be 2:00 Friday, February 28, 2020 at Kale Funeral Home in Osceola with Rev. James “Pete” R Sheesley officiating.

Interment following in the Maple Hill Cemetery in Osceola.

Memorials may be directed to her family for a fitting tribute to be decided later.
