Area wrestling roundup: Central Decatur battle, drop close duals

Central Decatur in triangular action

The Cardinals hit the mat in a triangular Tuesday night, ending the night 1-2.

CD beat Baxter 58-6, lost to Colfax-Mingo 45-32 and lost to Collins-Maxwell 54-18.

Against Baxter, CD had wins from Will Gillis at 120 David Walker at 152. Gillis picked up a pin at 5:59 and Walker won by major decision in a 15-2 final. Tegan Carson (195) also had a pin.

Against Colfax, CD's Carson had a major decision over Will Thornton in a 17-1 final score. The Cardinals had four pins to help bring their score up, but it wasn't enough to pull out a dual win.

Against Collins-Maxwell, the Cardinals had seven forfeits. Devin Adams (126) and Walker were the only CD wrestlers with a match win, with Adams winning by pin in 1:32 and Walker winning by pin at 4:17

Central Decatur hosts triangular

LEON – Central Decatur hosted Bedford/Lenox and Winterset Saturday afternoon with the Cardinals dropping both matches.

The Cardinals battled with Bedford/Lenox, falling 42-39.

Will Gillis (120) had a pin over Chance Valenzuela in 2:29, Logan Jones (138) also had a pin at 3:26 over Talon Reidel and Zander Reed (160) took down Jon Weaver in 4:30.

Dakota Boswell (182) had the fastest pin of the dual for CD, pinning Jesse Lawson in seconds. Colton Barnes was the only CD grappler to win by decision, winning 4-1 over Brayden Daly.

The Cardinals lost in 71-3 against Winterset, taking three points in its only decision win from Tegan Carson (195).

Carson beat Kade Forsyth 6-1. Nine other CD wrestlers were pinned by Winterset opponents.

Wearmouth at the Jack Mendenhall Invitational

AMES – Josephine Wearmouth was unable to pick up a win for the Interstate 35 girls Saturday afternoon at the Jack Mendenhall Invitational.

Wearmouth faced Lewis Central's Sophie Barnes, falling in 0:54. She then faced Jazmyn Knuton of Valley, West Des Moines and fell in 28 seconds. Her third match was a forfeit to Ames' Savannah Williams.

I-35 hosts

TRURO – Interstate 35 took on Des Moines Lincoln Thursday night, losing 40-39.

The Roadrunners had pins from Ryan Steinlage (113), Reuben Smith (120), Nick Steinlage (132), Chase Darst (132), Brock Thompson (195) and Class 1A 285 No. 3 Ryley Snell.

The only battle that did not end in a fall was at 138 with DML's Ben Alvarado beating Chase Baker in an 11-8 score.

Des Moines Lincoln won a tiebreak by unknown criteria.
