Sarah Jane “Janie” Hatfield, daughter of William Virgil Stevens and Dorothy Rae McLaughlin Stevens was born December 17, 1949 in Columbus, Georgia and passed from this life Sunday, January 5, 2020 at her home near Weldon, Iowa surrounded by her family, at 70 years of age.

Janie grew up in Georgia where she graduated from Bradwell Institute Hinesville, GA in 1967. She moved to Iowa in March of 1968 and was united in marriage to Jerry Dean Hatfield on June 22, 1968 in Leon, IA, and they were blessed with two children, Ben and Christy.

Janie worked at Furnas Electric for many years. She then attended SWCC in 2003 and began working at SCICAP where she was the administrator of various programs within the organization. Janie was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She enjoyed the outdoors, softball, her flower gardens and having a big vegetable garden. Janie enjoyed going coyote hunting with Jerry and her family. Her greatest love was her grandkids and great grandkids.

Those relatives who preceded Janie in death were her father, William Virgil Stevens, mother, Dorothy Rae Stevens, nephew, Kevin Stevens, nephew, Darin Hatfield, brother-in-law, Gene Hatfield and brother-in-law, Bob Hatfield.

Janie leaves to cherish her memory; husband, Jerry Dean Hatfield of Weldon, IA, son, Ben (Jenny) Hatfield of Murray, IA, daughter, Christy (Penny) Hatfield of Des Moines, IA,  grandchildren, Nick (Emily) Hatfield of Des Moines, IA, Zoey (Brandon) Hatfield of Grand River, IA,  Zeb (Sabrina) Hatfield of Van Wert, IA, Zabe (Grace) Hatfield of Osceola, IA, Zane (Melanie) Hatfield of Hopeville, IA and Zadie Hatfield of Osceola, IA. Also surviving are her brother, Mike (Theresa) Stevens of Hinesville, GA, brother, Ray Stevens of Hinesville, GA, Tammy Clements of Florida, good friend, Joella Perry, her beloved dog, Misty as well as other relatives and many friends.

Graveside services will be held at Hebron Cemetery, Thursday January 9, 2020 at 11 am.

Family will greet friends from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm Wednesday, January 8, 2020 at Kale Funeral Home.

Interment will be in the Hebron Cemetery
