Hungarian in Iowa vet clinics

Anna Kimball is from Budapest, Hungary but her last name may look familiar because her grandparents are Jim and Mary Ellen Kimball, of Osceola and her father is Jeff Kimball.

Anna recently graduated from veterinary school in Hungary and has spent the summer with her paternal grandparents here in Osceola. She has been working at Iowa Veterinary Specialties in Des Moines and All Pets Hospital in Des Moines. She also spend some time at Iowa Veterinary Wellness Center and BluePearl Pet Hospital in Des Moines.

“I was basically shadowing,” said Kimball. “I went to see patients with the doctors and went over the treatment plans with them.”

Kimball was able to take samples and talk with clients as well. She enjoyed helping the veterinarians with whatever they needed help with.

She has job interviews lined up back home in Hungary and is excited to find a job working with animals.

“This time has really helped me figure out what I want to do and how it would be good to do it,” said Kimball.

After three and a half months in Osceola Anna left for Budapest Tuesday.

“I realized that I really like it here, “ said Kimball. “So I’m going to work on getting my licensing here and maybe practice here at some point.”

Kimball was happy to have spent time in Osceola and learn from Iowa veterinarians. She noticed the biggest difference between working as a vet in Hungary versus the U.S. is that here pets that people bring in to the vet clinic are truly like family to their owners and she enjoyed that.
