Thirteen middle school band members will be representing Clarke in the South Central Conference Honor Band on Monday, March 25. Other schools in the conference include Albia, Centerville, Chariton, Davis County, Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont and Knoxville. Each school is sending seventh and eighth grade students to participate in this honor band. Davis County will host the event this year.

The Clarke Seventh Grade Band will be represented by Ashlin Hardy (oboe), Rili Houge (clarinet), Elli Blackford (clarinet), Veronica Banuelos (clarinet), Cole White (trumpet), Jonathan Vega (trombone) and Evan Bobolz (trombone).

The Clarke Eighth Grade Band will be represented by Dejah Rowe (flute), Lily Arnold (alto saxophone), Aiden Coates (trumpet), Kenzie McCuddin (trumpet), Riley Elsbury (trombone) and Calhoun Lundquist (trombone). All of these band members are students of Christie Stortenbecker, the middle school band director at Clarke.

Students have been given five pieces of music to practice in advance of the honor band. On March 25, all of the students from the various schools will rehearse together at Davis County during the afternoon as an ensemble for the first time. That evening, they will present a concert for the public. The concert will begin at 7 p.m. in the Davis County High School Gym in Bloomfield, Iowa. Admission to the concert is $3 per adult and $2 per student. The guest conductor will be Leon Kuehner, the Executive Director of the Iowa Alliance for Arts Education.
