SCICF reads to Kindergarten classes

Each year South Central Iowa Community Foundation (SCICF) board members volunteer a day to read to the Kindergarten children.

SCICF believes children are one of our greatest assets and that having good reading skills will assist them in becoming productive citizens able to positively contribute to society as adults. The project serves all  kindergarten children in SCICF’s five-county area.  In Clarke County, approximately 130 children were impacted.  For some it was the very first book they can call their own. The books the Board read and the children received was “Duck on a Bike” by David Shannon and “There was an old lady who swallowed a bat!” by Lucille Colandro.

The South Central Iowa Community Foundation is a vehicle for people to make a lasting difference in their community.  Its central purpose is to serve the needs and philanthropic goals of donors who wish to better their community, now and in the future.  The mission of SCICF is to contribute to a better life for people of South Central Iowa by helping donors to carry out their charitable intent and by providing responsible stewardship of gifts for community purposes.
