The Wellmark Foundation receives 119 Community Kickstarter Grant applications

The public is encouraged to show online support through Oct. 7.

DES MOINES — Over the summer, The Wellmark Foundation announced it was accepting Community Kickstarter grant applications to fund up to $10,000 for projects in Iowa and South Dakota focused on making community members more active or improving access to healthy foods.

“The large number of applications is a testament to communities wanting to improve the health and well-being of their citizens,” said Stephanie Perry, The Wellmark Foundation manager. “We received requests for all types of projects from park and playground renovations to farmers’ market and community garden projects.”

All 119 applications have been uploaded to www.facebook.com/WellmarkBCBS. From Sept. 26 until Oct. 7, The Wellmark Foundation encourages the public to go online to show their support by choosing which one is their favorite.

Grant recipients will be announced in November.
