Area schools compete well at DeWitt Invitational

Central Decatur finished fifth and Clarke finished sixth in Class A of the DeWitt Invitational hosted by Clarke Mar. 29, with 48 and 46 points respectively. Murray finished sixth in Class B with 31 points.

Sarah Pate led the way for Clarke, winning both the shot put and the discus. Pate took the victory in the shot put by launching a throw of 41-05.50, which currently ranks as the top throw in the state.

Pate is the reigning Drake Relays shot put champion, winning that event last year with a throw of 42-10.25.

Pate also won the discus with a throw of 112-04, winning that event by nearly 18 feet.

Clarke took third place in the 4x800 meter relay, running 11:13.20. Ashley Gibbs took fourth place in the 100 meter dash with a time of 14.80.

Delaney May finished third in the 800 meter run for the Indians, clocking 2:41.38.

Central Decatur picked up two event victories thanks to Caitlyn Saxton, who won both the 100 and the 200 meter dash.

Central Decatur took second place in the distance medley relay, running a time of 4:55.14. The Cardinals finished third in the shuttle hurdle relay, running 1:20.82.

Saxton won the 100 with a time of 13.50, and took gold in the 200 with a time of 27.85, narrowly edging out Chariton’s Kellie Lahart by .03 seconds.

Murray’s Kate Patton ran away with the gold medal in the Class B 400 meter dash. Patton ran 1:01.78, winning by nearly three full seconds over second-place Katie Agey of Van Meter.
