Why do I volunteer?

To the Editor:

I am a Osceola Chamber Main Street student representative from Clarke high school. I am a very involved student with activities, sports, and clubs.

I chose to become a part of Osceola Chamber Main Street to build relationships with the local business owners that I normally wouldn’t interact with. These relationships have given me references for my future. It is always exciting to plan an event and have it be a success.
Not only have I gotten to be a part of the planning but attending the Board Meetings has broadened my horizons about what Chamber Main Street does and how they affect the community. Several events and programs that are offered to our community are put on by Chamber Main Street.

As a Chamber Main Street student representative I volunteer at many events in the town or by helping make welcome baskets, delivering table tents, making the chamber scrapbook and decorating the square for the holidays. I love doing projects, planning events, and decorating. It is something fun to help the community. Some events that I have enjoyed helping with are the Wine Walk, Snow Flake Ball, and Trunk or Treat.

I am a very social out going person who likes to give back to the community and make a difference in someone’s life, which is why I volunteer.

Lakyn Weers, Student Representative

A recreational center in Osceola has been in the works for several years. Do you think the community needs this center?
Yes, youth in the community need a safe place to have fun.
Yes, everyone in the community would use the facility.
No, it's just an added expense and we should try to save money, not spend it.
