Clarke County Development Corporation update
Bill Trickey, Executive Director, CCDC
The Clarke County Development Corporation is dedicated to improving the quality of life in Clarke County.
The organization does that by focusing on three traditional areas of Economic Development. Those areas are Community Development, Business Retention and Development and providing support for start-up companies.
One of the founding members, E. Eddy Saylor, once said “It all starts with a paycheck”. The organization never forgets those words and today strives to make sure those paychecks provide a income that will support a family. That is never an easy goal to achieve, especially in an economic downturn. Nonetheless, the effort goes on.
Most of the organizations Community Development efforts center around the administering of our grant programs made possible by proceeds from Terrible’s Lakeside Casino.
This year the grant program has funded a broad range of projects. $41,400 has gone to help subsidize the Village and nearly $30,000 to Small Wonders in Murray. $6,300 has been contributed to the Food Pantry and $10,000 has gone to Families First. $12,000 has been pledged to Home Care and $10,000 has been contributed to the Dollars for Scholars Endowment Fund. $100,000 has been pledged to Cross Ministries and a $90,000 payment was made on the Clarke County Fairgrounds Events Center. $10,000 was contributed to both Osceola Chamber Mainstreet operations and the Clarke County Sherriff’s Youth Detention Facility.
$25,600 was sent to Murray as a matching grant for the Murray Fair Grounds improvement project. A $1,600 matching grant helped provide in-car computers for the Sheriff’s department and a nearly $6,000 matching grant helped Mosaic expand its jobs program. $105,000 was contributed to the Clarke County Foundation for job creation projects and $35,000 went to the Paint the Town Red Program which once again gave away 100’s of gallons or free paint to Clarke County residents.
Add in few miscellaneous grants and the $10,000 Community Action Fund and the total for the year was $525,644.73.
Not a bad year for Community Development!
