Truro News

Last Saturday the members of the Calvary Baptist Church of St. Charles held a farewell potluck for Ken & Sharon Crider & family. Ken & Sharon are our missionaries to Cameroon and will be leaving next weekend to the Ukraine to visit Sharon’s parents, Ted & Deborah Welch, who are missionaries there. After Christmas Ken & Sharon will be leaving for France for language school and then off to Cameroon. Before becoming missionaries Ken & Sharon lived with their family in New Virginia. We wish them the best.
The weathermen were right this time and snow began to fall just a few minutes before 6 p.m. on Sunday night. This will be our second snow for the season so we are doing pretty well. It doesn’t help me with my Christmas shopping!! Now it is Tuesday and it snowed all night and now it is coming down harder and the wind is blowing. I believe the weatherman said we should receive 5 to 7 inches additional snow. We already had up to 3 inches of snow that fell on Sunday night. Guess winter is here for sure!! We ended up with snow amounts of about 12 to 13 inches here in Truro. It was rather hard to tell because the wind blew the snow all over the place and made drifts that were 3 and 4 feet tall and, of course, it has to do that right in front of your garage!
There is no one that clears the roadways of snow in any town around like Ancel Kennedy does. He puts in long hours in clearing the roads so you can go to work or get home. With all this snow we’ve had, please remember to remove all parked cars along roadways during snow removal. This is for Ancel’s safety so as not to run into any cars but also to keep your car from being buried in snow.
City Council held their monthly meeting last Monday night and was over around 11 p.m. There were several guests and many subjects were talked about. No open burning was talked about as well as water accounts, recycling, and the results of the smoke tests in our sewer system, etc. This was the last council meeting for Bob Glasscock and Veronica Woods. We appreciate their dedication and willingness to be on the council for two years and we wish them both well. Two new council members, Sarah Darst and Bobbie Finley, will be starting Jan. 1. We wish the two of them the best.
Not much news this week other than all the snow that we received and I guess we haven’t had this much snow at one time since in the 1970’s according to one news commentator. I thought we had a lot of snow in the early 1980’s but guess I was wrong. Everyone is trying to get their Christmas shopping done and decorations all up and get some of those special Christmas baking projects completed and be all done in time for Christmas. I’m working on it but it has been a slow process for me. Sure hope the weather holds out so I can finally make it to a mall to finish up my shopping. Guess I should have gone shopping on Black Friday!
