Weldon News

By Mabel Shay/Kathy Mason

We are experiencing December weather. This has been a cold windy week.

Michael and Tracy Shay hosted their annual Christmas party Saturday, Dec. 5. Many friends and relatives attended.

Rick and Joy Jackson were really surprised by their family and friends Dec. 5. Their daughter was taking them to Des Moines to celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary. Guess what? They were welcomed by friends and family at the Weldon Community Center with a big party. Joy said, “There is nothing like good family and friends.”

Charles Pearcy and Kathy Mason went to Clinton, Mo. to spend Thanksgiving with Brent Mason’s family. McKenna Mason will be eight years old Dec. 8, Xavier Mason will be 3 Dec. 17. Brent Mason is coach for the basketball game Saturday.

Nell Wright of Osceola went to Fayette, Mo. to visit her niece.

Cindy Fisher inadvertently transposed the address in the request for mail to her grandmother, Lois Morgan. Her correct address is 1631 Thornwood Road, West Des Moines, IA 50265

Clarke County Landfill Commission voted to proceed with a transfer station to replace the landfill after it reaches capacity, but Osceola City Council hasn't given its support for the idea. What do you think is the best option for the city of Osceola?
A transfer station would be most convenient, even if it comes at slightly higher costs than direct hauling and keeps the city in the 28E agreement.
If direct hauling to Madison County Landfill or Metro Waste Authority is the cheapest option, it's the best choice despite some inconvenience to those who currently drop off waste at Clarke County Landfill.
Although it could be the most expensive option, Clarke County should build another landfill.
I don't care what the city decides.
