Truro Area News

By Mary Lou Parker

Dean Parker celebrated his 71st birthday on Nov. 19. He and his wife, Mary Lou, along with his sister, Judie, and husband, Kirby Seibel, celebrated by going out to eat at Johnny’s Italian Steakhouse.  Our meals were very delicious. Also our daughter, Rachel, called her dad when we returned home to wish him a happy birthday.

Chad & Jenny Porter are busy painting, etc. and getting ready to move into the house once occupied by Chad’s Uncle & Aunt, Ward & Nellie Parker, and cousins, Nancy (Parker) Hagan & Todd, and family.  They hope to be moved in by the weekend after Thanksgiving.

Welcome to Truro to the Porters’. The Porter’s have four children, Seth, Sadie, Wade and the newest bundle of joy, Wyatt who is four months old.

Kirby & Judie (Parker) Seibel who were visiting in the home of Judie’s brother and wife, Dean & Mary Lou Parker, started to return to their home in North Dakota when their RV broke down and they had to return to the Parker’s home.  One good thing came out of all of it and that is that the Seibel’s and the Parker’s got to spend a Thanksgiving together along with the Parker children and grandchildren.  At this writing there has been no further word on the RV and when or if it can be repaired!

Naomi Johnson attended the annual Holiday Bazaar sponsored by the Truro Betterment committee on Saturday, Nov. 21 at the I-35 School. She won a basket containing products from each of the 26 vendors participating in the craft show. Naomi said she was very thankful to have received this very special prize and that it is positively wonderful. Mrs. Johnson sends a very warm and happy thank you to the Betterment committee and to the vendors.

Word was received that Roger Picken had passed away last week in Omaha. He was 80 years old and was the son of the late Clyde Picken and Ethel (Porter) Picken Bates. Ethel was one of the daughters of the late Samuel & Sadie Porter.  Several of Roger’s cousins live in the Truro & Peru area. Our deepest sympathies are extended to his wife, Joyce, and to his two children and their families. The funeral was held on Saturday, Nov. 21 in Omaha.

Clarke County Landfill Commission voted to proceed with a transfer station to replace the landfill after it reaches capacity, but Osceola City Council hasn't given its support for the idea. What do you think is the best option for the city of Osceola?
A transfer station would be most convenient, even if it comes at slightly higher costs than direct hauling and keeps the city in the 28E agreement.
If direct hauling to Madison County Landfill or Metro Waste Authority is the cheapest option, it's the best choice despite some inconvenience to those who currently drop off waste at Clarke County Landfill.
Although it could be the most expensive option, Clarke County should build another landfill.
I don't care what the city decides.
