The weather has improved in Clarke/Decatur County and harvest is going at a rapid pace.  I hope you had a great Thanksgiving Holiday.

Ted and Normalee Quayle hosted Thanksgiving dinner for their family. Those attending were, Gary and Vickie Weaklend, Brian, Carl and Dylan Engleen of Boone, Chris, Kelli and Hunter Wood of Ankeny, Courtney Rost of Des Moines, Lanny and Pam Quayle of Adel and grandson Jadyn, Corey Quayle, Niki and Tyler Pritchett of Chariton, Rick Quayle of Lamoni and Peggy Smith of West Des Moines. They also celebrated Hunter’s 1st birthday.

Cindy Fischer sent this email for Weldon News. This is a great request for friends of Lois Morgan (a former of resident of Weldon area living on Highway #69 north of Weldon). Lois has moved to Manor Care in West Des Moines following rehab from a broken hip in May.

She continues to enjoy corresponding and visits with friends and family. At 95, she is still a ray sunshine to not only family and friends but has become a favorite of staff at the facility. Because of the erratic mail delivery at the facility, (I credit this to her legal name being Rosa and most mail being addressed to “Lois.”)  I simply take her mail to her when I make the half-mile trek each day. Address mail cards and letters c/o Cindy Fischer, 1613 Thornwood Rd, WDM, IA 50265. She will love getting Christmas cards and letters from you.

November Weldon City Hall minutes

No water at City Hall. Victor Hull will call SIRWA and find out about putting a meter and line to the street for water. Pot holes on Main Street. Jolene will call Rick at Dee Co.

Engineer and see if he has come to look at Main Street and will grade. Proctor has until Nov. 17 to clean up property next to the Methodist Church and then the city will begin clean up and attach to property taxes. Jolene Tennet, Secretary.

Clyde Willard Johnson of Eddyville passed away Nov. 1 at age 89.  Willard was formerly from Van Wert.  His sister is Twyla Eddy of Oskaloosa. His brother Gerald is of Chillicothe, Mo.

Weldon Community Center held their Style Show by Snyders Clothing Shop of Humeston. There was a nice turn out. The models were from Weldon. Aunt Romee was there with her chicken in a cage entertaining the guests.

Dick and Connie Hines celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Nov. 21 at the Clarke County Fairgrounds Event Center. Their actual anniversary date is Dec. 31. They wanted to celebrate it early before the weather had a chance to turn wicked. Junction Creamery catered the celebration. The attendance was over 200 of their closest friends and relatives. A time-line slide presentation of Dick, Connie and their children’s lives triggered memories for most of the crowd. The celebration was superb and enjoyed by all.

A recreational center in Osceola has been in the works for several years. Do you think the community needs this center?
Yes, youth in the community need a safe place to have fun.
Yes, everyone in the community would use the facility.
No, it's just an added expense and we should try to save money, not spend it.
